Light. Emotion. Memories.
When I was a kid, my family traveled home to Colorado frequently. I was in awe of the statuesque San Juan Mountains on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. Mountains have always held a special place in my heart, and I’m constantly drawn to them.
In 2004 I bought my first DSLR, but it wasn’t until 2015 that I became more serious about my photography. There are unique challenges involved in every genre of photography (and I’ve tried most of them), and one of my strengths is problem solving. In photography, there are always variables to be solved for. Landscape photography drew me in not only because of the beautiful locations, it also involved knowing weather patterns, where the light would be, and some luck.
Portrait work presented a different obstacle. I’m naturally a shy introverted person, but in 2019, I decided not to let that stop me, and I began trying portraits. I’m hooked and could not imagine going back. It has been immensely rewarding to meet so many amazing people and has helped improve my overall photography by leaps and bounds.
Photography has not only helped me study the beauty in this world, it has helped me become a much more well rounded person.
I believe finding your photographic style is a lifelong journey, but if you look across my work, the commonality you will find is the use of light to best present my subjects. Creating images that only existed in my mind’s eye but is now encapsulated in an image, is what keeps me coming back.
My dream shoots involve combining the beauty of landscapes and people into the same image. Thankfully I’m only a few hours from the mountains or the ocean, and it’s possible to make that happen when the opportunity arises.
